Rebar Frame

December 11, 2008

Once i saw this picture it grabbed my attention right away. Being in the home building business I have been around this steel material for some time now. The only think is that I have only seen this used in concrete work and never in another form. Not only a great solution for a bike frame, but at the same time a very solid piece of art. You might tend to feel every bump in the road, but I can guarantee you that this bike will last a lifetime.

Weight NO! Strength YES!

December 8, 2008

I know the anal person that I am, weight is always on a top watch each day. Most cyclists try and keep their weight to a minimum, but at the same time develop a good amount of strength that will help them overcome those treacherous hill climbs.

A science professor at George Mason University, by the name of Jason Winchester, did a study on how to develop great levels of strength but at the same time not gain any mass in weight within the fiber tissue. This master in exercise science states, “Strong evidence supports that improvements in force and power characteristics such as RFD can lead to improvements in cycling performance,” and than following with “If a person can improve their capability to generate force quickly, it can lead to significant improvements in function.”

In some way I can relate to this in my day to day training. About a year ago I took on the ability to work in Interval running on none biking days. What I have seen from such training, is increase in lung capacity and a steady gear stance while climbing my neighboring hills. By pushing your body, legs, and mind to run at a quick constant speed for a minute, and then cool down at a significant lower pace, its shapes your fatigue into a entirely new function.

Check the rest of this article from bicycling.com to see in detail exactly what exercises to use to develop these results.

Lance’s Comeback

December 7, 2008

On December 4th, a press conference took place in Tenerife, Spain where Lance joined Team Astana, and quickly stole the show on his recent comeback. About a month ago Lance decided to join Team Astana as a volunteer rider because he believes that this is one of the most dominant teams in the world. Compiled of the industries top riders, Lance feels he has put himself in a great position to get his message across.

A man that has conquered the sport of cycling from the day he developed a name for himself has taken a different approach to the sport his second time around. Once, having no fear of anything, overcoming cancer, and racking in an astonishing collection of yellow jerseys, we soon realize that Lance isn’t coming back for the victories. He states, “”First, I have a passion for racing and training. Nowhere does it say that I can’t come back. Second, there is a place and need for the Livestrong message around the world.”

This man even though has grown in age, still has the desire and passion to overcome his mission, the mission to make a change. He set building block for the sport of cycling and because of that, he has re-joined the industry to be the voice and exposure that can influence this change.
